review: first love and other sorrows..

by harold brodkey.
its a short story, first I`d like to start of  by saying, I will only be reviewing novels and plays and short stories, because  I read about 3 poems a day, it would be so exhausting to review every single one..

this story is just grand, it has a certain atmosphere that attracts you fully, and pulls you within it.  we dont know the name of the main character, the speaker that is, but I personally instantly fell in love with him.

the wither`s shifting, spring has come and what joy is spring, he speaks of his beautiful sister and her constant arguments with her mother, about boys.
her mother who has been through the exact same situationist (implied) tries to prevent her from making the same mistakes and ending up poor, while she could have married rich, but eventually lost her chances..

the daughter dosnt understand and foolishly assumes that her looks will go on forever.

the story revolves around a teenage boy, and all his daily struggles, a teenage boy with a wonderful mind, that seems to not fit in with his peers.

the plot of the story isn't exactly intensely unique however, I loved the simple description, the wonderful details an the ease at which the author paints a full picture in front of you of what is life.

I enjoyed this 15 pages short story dearly and I would give it 4 stars.
